Light Painting
Research
Santa Fe Railroad Yard- Jack Delano 1949.
The photo is of lights from Railroad workers and cars.
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF), was a large railroad in the united states. Because blackout regulations, all lights had been moved to shine the light downwards.
The photo is in colour but its dark and you can only see the lights from the cars.
The photo is realistic but the light is not because of the speed of the shutter speed, you can see the path of where the lights have been.
It is high contrast because although most of the picture is dark, the lights are very bright compared.
There are lines that are created by the light.
The photographer hasn't used the rule of thirds, but has taken the photo, so that the lights draw our eyes to the centre of the photo.
The photo was taken outside at night, and was spontaneous.
Ribbon on Hannover street- Eric Staller
In the photograph, there is five lines of light round the street. Eric staller said he attached five sparklers to a
broomstick and held it at arm’s length.
The photo isnt very realistic, because you wouldn't see lights like this on the street.
The photo is in colour, and is low contrast as although the lights are bright, the background of the photo is also bright.
The are lines of light around the edge of the pavements.
This photo was taken outside in the daytime, and it was staged.
The photographer would either have had to run round holding the sparklers or get some other people to do it to help him.
Eric Staller was born in New York on 14th September 1947.
Eric is best known for his 'Volkswagen Lightmobile', this is a Volkwagen Beetle covered in 1659 light bulbs.

Our First Photos
WWW: I like the effect of the last photo which is what lydia took. The effect worked well on most of the photos.
EBI: Some of the photo's didn't work as well because we couldn't see where we had 'drawn' so when we tried to do the blue star in the middle, we couldnt see what we had done!

Angels and Devils
I really like this theme because its different.
WWW: The angel looks really good because the light is bright
EBI: The red on the devil ones looks good, but I could be looking at the camera to make it scarier instead of looking down.

Light Stencils
We tried to do a similar thing to this with our stencils.
we tried a couple of time to get it right, but it was hard to keep the stencil still for long enough, because of the long shutter speed. If you can not keep it still enough, then the lights can look blurry, like mine did.

This is one of our images.
It was really hard to keep the stencil still for the length of the shutter speed, so the horses looked blurry.
I decided not to carry on with this idea because it wasn't working very well.

Photoshop
Angel
To get this effect I made the photo black and white, and increased the contrast to make the halo and wings brighter. I think this photo is quite blurry and doesn't look like its in focus.

Devil
To get this effect I increased the contrast and brightness. I like this effect because it made the red brighter.

FINAL PIECE
I chose this as my final piece.
I really like this photo because its different to most other light painting photos.
I edited it on Photoshop to increase the contrast. The effect has made my skin look almost ghostly which adds to the effect of the Devil theme.
I like my posture in this, however I could have looked a bit more scary by maybe making sure my eyes could have been seen better.
The lines where the torch had shone are good because it is a strong line whereas on previous images the light wasn't so good.
I moved slightly, so the devil horns are slightly in the wrong place, but this is only a little and isn't too noticeable.
